Sometimes I get overly excited about things, but these days it’s for good reason. I’m so excited to {finally} share a little bit more about our newest “Honeycomb x heirloomed” collaboration as part of our Southern Artisan Collection.
If there’s just one thing you should know about Honeycomb Studio it’s these that ceramic artist Courtney Hamill once apprenticed in a farmhouse on the Blue Ridge Parkway. Had her work not stolen my heart first, this fact surely would have.
I first spotted one of her ceramic horns and I was hooked on her line. When I was looking at new artists to add to our collaborations this year, she was definitely at the top of my list for so many reasons. Courtney is clearly talented and passionate about her work, but she’s that great mix of artist and super-smart entrepreneur, and mom to boot. { If you don’t already follow her on Instagram, be sure to pop over for her always-witty posts with a few shots of her unbelievably adorable son}.
I had the idea of a biscuit cutter in my head for some time and it was one of the “top picks” I discussed with Courtney when we were looking at design ideas for the collaboration. With a few coffee meetings and a phone call Courtney had quickly whipped up these two pieces that we would launch with. She brought a few design concepts back to the table, as well as a few detail treatments. And we whittled it down to the final pieces.
We designed a makers mark stamp for the collection, inspired by similar marks hidden on vintage dinnerware, but celebrating it and bringing it to the forefront. And, after about 25 mark designs, we narrowed it down to our favorite; within a few hours the stamp was on order. A big “H” for Honeycomb Studio with a little “h” for heirloomed – it was the perfect balance.
One of my favorite things about these collaborations is how much better the final product turns out thanks to their creativity and knowledge of their craft. The rusty / mustard color of the mark, the size of the butter dish, the shape and handle options on the cutter were all thanks to Courtney and I couldn’t love them more.
