In some ways this year has absolutely flown and in others it has dragged on to the ends of the Earth, but somehow we have stumbled upon Labor Day weekend nonetheless. It symbolically marks the end of summer for most, though here in the South especially the heat that remains makes it a difficult and true hard stop of of season.
Though the humidity begins to fade, my Limelights in the yard are starting to darken along with the coneflower centers that have attracted all the Golden Finches, and the sunsets are long and golden in the evening. We are entering that special time of year that is known as an “Indian Summer,” one that lingers and one that was likely first noted by Native Americans who hunted the woods in hazy, unseasonably warmer times. I like to call it my very favorite time of the year.

HOME
We are nearly done renovating our Basement and I simply cannot wait to share this bonus space we will now be able to use with our family + friends. Now that the shell is complete, I’ve begun looking ahead at some furniture + fixtures to fill it with to make this space comfortable, aestethically pleasing and durable enough to withstand the most effortless entertaining and kid playtime.
Because we have a large island space down there, I want to find a perfect counter stool to give us a bunch of extra seating downstairs. Here is a roundup of some of the farmhouse inspired kitchen stools I’ve found so far, love to know your favorites! Click for the full roundup.
VINTAGE
In case you missed my Instagram or email announcement yesterday, we’ve launched a brand new series over on our IGTV called Old Souls and I am honestly just so excited about where it’s headed. The video series is an ode to all things nostalgic, vintage and celebrates the stories of the past with a bunch of “how to” and DIY mixed in. Pop over to see the first episode all about collecting + styling with vintage books (and shop a few from our Vintage Goods shop too). #OLDSOUL
STYLE
Everyone knows that this weekend is Labor Day, but not everyone knows that it is also Opening Day for Dove Season here in Georgia. Come Monday they say it will be a faux pas to where white any longer (though I don’t conform to that rule because I simply love the neutral hue too much), but come Saturday I’ll be sporting my best camo for the family-filled tradition at the family farm so stay tuned tomorrow to my Instastories.
While “authentic” camo can be a bit hard to mix into everyday wear, here are some mainstream camo picks that you can snag to tackle this trend on more of a street style level.
