Classic Cocktail: Garden Fresh Mint Juleps

As a part of our classic cocktail series, we are making a garden fresh mint julep. This is a beautiful cocktail to serve this spring, especially during the Kentucky Derby!

Classic Cocktail: Garden Fresh Mint Julep

It’s that special time of year where entertaining is at its peak, thanks to all this beautiful weather and sunshine. And today I’m celebrating with a fresh, seasonal cocktail recipe. With the Kentucky Derby right around the corner, a Mint Julep seemed like the perfect fit.

The key ingredient to a Mint Julep is fresh mint (well, and bourbon …). Luckily, my herb garden is going absolutely crazy right now and my sprawling mint is nearly covering all the beds in my front garden. It does makes for a beautiful and fragrant ground cover, but beware as it will certainly takeover your garden if you let it.

I came across these amazing vintage julep cups in one of my favorite vintage shops in Chamblee, GA. They are just perfect for serving Mint Juleps in year-round, but especially for the tradition of the Kentucky Derby. A little extra detail I loved adding to this mint julep (or really any cocktail) are our cocktail napkins that come in a variety of colors, great for any occasion. I served this mint julep with the Railroad Stripe cocktail napkin to compliment the pewter cup.
