A few tips for creating better habits around hydration, with some suggestions on how to drink more water, track your water intake, the best water bottles + hydration tools, a tea kettle roundup, infused water combinations and a few ways to sneak in an extra glass or two during the day.
Drink More Water
I’m one of those people who much prefers 95 degree days to 65 degree ones. I blame my hot + humid Florida weather upbringing but I really do love the heat.
This time of year (ok, any time of year really) I am always pushing myself to drink more water. I know it is so essential and I can totally see the countless benefits when I commit myself to pushing my intake.
There are a few things that work for me in upping my daily intake of water.
1. Track Your Water Intake
The first is simply tracking it. I’ve found that when I’m more aware of how much (or little) water I’ve had during the day it helps me to push on to get the right amount. That goes for the kiddos too. You can simply refill your water bottle + count the ounces each day or check out a bunch of different apps to easily track on your Apple Watch or iPhone.
2. Make Your Water Easy to Access
Another easy way to drink more water is simply to make it readily available. Seems too good to be true but it works. I always have a water bottle handy filled with water that I can bring with me whether I’m at my desk, in the studio or running somewhere. Already having it in a “to-go” form helps me to grab and go as I need to. And, there are SO many beautiful vessels out there these day for hydration that it’s hard not to want them all. I love to try to find bottles that are glass or metal, have a tight seal without a bunch of extra parts and hold a bunch of water with a spout that is easy to drink from.
These are some of my favorite water bottles + hydration tools :
We also got a water cooler / bottle service at our house last summer, which totally transformed the amount of water the kids drink. And bonus points – they can walk right over and fill it up themselves with nice, cold, filtered water.
3. Keep It Interesting With Infused Water
Another tip I love is to make the water a little more interesting and appealing. I love making up some flavored water and keeping a jar or pitcher on hand in the fridge for easy pouring. The flavor combinations are endless and especially during the Summer when all the fruit and herbs are so fresh and full of flavor.
For this “recipe” I picked some stems of fresh rosemary from my garden and cut up a bunch of bright lemons and simply added it to the pitcher. Not only is it yummy but it’s so beautiful too if you’re entertaining or looking to add a touch of something other than florals to a tablescape.
A few other flavor and combo ideas are :
- grapefruit + mint
- lavender + honey
- strawberry tops
- raspberry + blackberry
- pineapple + coconut water
4. Hot Water Counts Too
Probably my most favorite and sometimes most unassuming way to hydrate is with hot water. Especially in the winter months, I find it hard to drink cold water all day without staying chilly. I usually slice up a lemon or orange and enjoy a steamy cup of hot water at night, which is also great for curbing my need for an evening snack.
Here’s a Round Up of Timeless Tea Kettles :
I use my go-to Tea Kettle every. single. day and have since I got it as a wedding gift over 10 years ago. This one will truly last forever, but I put together a little round up of some others you may enjoy if you don’t have one yourself. Another plus, using the microwave less which is high on my list.
