We’re celebrating a series of Classic Cocktail recipes with this refreshing Bourbon Slush drink, almost a vintage forgotten gem. It’s the perfect beverage for a hot summer day and a Southern cocktail staple, as is any bourbon whiskey drink.
Bourbon Slush
It’s that time of year where things begin to slow down, and we finally get to enjoy the beautiful weather and summer sunshine. Personally, my favorite way to celebrate is with a refreshing and fun cocktail recipe. Today I want to share this delicious icy cocktail with you, straight from my Grandmother’s recipe card collection.
The only thing that makes a good cocktail even better is serving it up in vintage glassware, and using a recipe that was passed down to me form my Grandmother. She just loved to entertain and always had a cocktail late afternoon so this one must have made the rotation from time to time.
Bourbon Slush
Description
Ingredients
- 2 cups of hot brewed tea
- 6 oz can of frozen orange juice concentrate, thawed
- 1/3 cup of sugar
- 1 cup of bourbon
- 1/3 cup of lemon juice concentrate
Instructions
- Combine tea, orange juice, and sugar. Stir until sugar dissolves.
- Add remaining ingredients and freeze.
- About 1 hour before serving, remove from freezer and wait until slushy. Spoon slush into cocktail glasses and serve.
For a classic take on this recipe, include a drizzle of grenadine with a maraschino cherry to top it off. I’m not a big fan of red in general so we garnished with mint, but I was glad to see Grandma’s actual recipe coordinated with my liking as well.
This frosty refresher will quickly become your favorite summer cocktail. It could not be any easier to prepare, and freezes beautifully so you can make it ahead of time. Another tip is to pop your glassware in the freezer before serving to make sure your slush is cold and icy the whole time you are enjoying it.
