Cherishing family time as we gather for an old-school game night to laugh, play, and snack together.
Old-School Game Night
There are so many traditions I love creating, whether knowingly or not, for my kiddos during this very special time in their childhood.
I was just talking about how funny it is that some of the fondest memories I have from growing up were some of the most simple things of my life. Sipping hot cocoa on the front porch of a cabin, fishing with a cane pole and a can of corn in the middle of a creek, eating pecan sandies at the beach in a large hole we dug in the sand because it was so windy, and making “mud pies” with rocks + leaves we found in the driveway.
Because the simple things are often times the most special, and because of the ages of our kids these days (5, 3 + 2) the thought of game night every now and then is right up our “staying in tonight” alley.
Even our supper club has skewed toward game night lately in lieu of going out. I grew up playing Rummikub, SkipBo, Gin Rummy, Monopoly and Dominos, and doing puzzles on those rainy days at the beach. I love the throwback nature of a good game night and the kids love the challenge of learning something new and growing their little skills, beating each other (or us ..) and of course munching on a few snacks along the way.
I’ve included a few of my favorites below because they make great holiday gifts + stocking stuffers as the season grows closer. Love to know some of your favorite games to play with your family! #HEIRLOOMED
