One of my goals for the New Year has been to open up a little more behind the scenes and into my everyday life over here.
We always have so many different things going on, between our businesses and family happenings, and showing how all these things connect for me is important in understanding the deep roots of both my brand and my design aesthetic.
We have just reached the one-year mark {somehow …} of being in our new home and new studio. A true labor of love, and a great blend of both design + family for me. Today I thought I’d share a little glimpse into our kitchen, a place that has always been a central core in my home.
I authentically spend a great deal of time in the kitchen, whether I’m prepping, cooking or {let’s be honest} handing out countless snacks to these little kiddos. I love to bake, but since we’re trying to stick to a healthy routine over here, most days you can find me cooking away. While I love making the classics I grew up on, I also love testing out and playing with new recipes and meals that our whole family will enjoy.
If you know anything about me, you know I have a pretty simple and neutral design aesthetic, and I wanted our kitchen to reflect this palette. Some of my favorite features are the tiled range hood, our thick quartz island countertop, and of course, the farmhouse sink. I also love that we were able to incorporate the glass cabinets to frame the refrigerator to showcase the stacks of mismatched cream dinnerware we use on a daily basis. I also wanted to play on the clean and functional subway look that was popular, but also change it up a bit so we went with a matte square shape and tiled the entire kitchen for a dramatic but still clean texture that I have really loved against the cabinets and shiplap.
I couldn’t help but add this image from our photoshoot two weeks ago with these gorgeous WoodKith Feast Boards. They looked so great in the styled shot that I decided to keep one on my range, and a Plantation Board on the island.
Still working on a few details and will continue to add to the space. A long runner by the sink will make a big statement and I’ll probably end up going with a neutral kilim. I’m also always on the hunt for some large, white vintage ceramics or tins for the upper glass cabinets.
