Second Generation Jewelry.

With Valentine’s Day nipping at our heels, I thought it was only fitting to share a story about jewelry.

Today’s #HEIRLOOMED story comes from my own arsenal of keepsakes, this cocktail ring that was handed down to me from my Grandmother’s collection. Now of course it wasn’t a piece she wore every day, because this wasn’t the kind of woman she was. Certainly not one to be overly showy or pretentious, this would have been a piece of statement jewelry for her without a doubt.

The patina of the gold is always different when it’s worn and vintage, the glow a bit softer and more aged, but one I prefer. Even my husbands wedding band of only 6 years is beginning to show the same signs, which makes me smile at the thought. The art deco-like design of caged bars, interspersed with little stones make the perfect setting for the glowing center.

I love this ring and somehow it is a perfect fit for my otherwise tiny fingers. Much as the generations before me, I don’t wear this piece every day, but every day that I do brings a special connection to the past that I treasure more and more as the years go on.

If you’re thinking jewelry for your love this Valentine’s Day or anniversary, I’d urge you to consider a piece that is vintage, or one that will one day become a treasured heirloom within your family. I often wonder with all the jewelry and objects that we tend to accumulate in our lives, how there are only a few very special pieces that remain for the next generation to treasure. It is only these few keepsakes that are truly reflective reminders of people from our past.  I wonder what pieces my own children will remember from our daily lives and treasure one day.

I’d love to see your vintage jewelry and hear the stories that have been passed down to you along with each piece #HEIRLOOMED.
