Georgia Trust for Historic Preservation

If you’ve followed along on our blog, you know how much we love old homes, churches and buildings. Any chance we get on any road trip we are always stopping to look around, research the history and snap a few photos to share with you all.

As we enter our 15th year in business I wanted to focus on a few causes that align with our brand, and  that will allow us to give back to the community. Naturally, historic preservation came to mind and The Georgia Trust was a perfect fit. It is so important to me to document these structures and share the importance architecture plays in history. It is so sad to see these beautiful + historic old buildings being torn down. The Trust works hard to celebrate and preserve them for future generations to enjoy.

A Brief History

When Sherman and his troops marched through Atlanta, they took with them so much history. They set fire to many buildings and homes in our city, causing so much historic charm to be lost. However, while I’ve lived here there has been great effort to preserve and revitalize the historic neighborhoods and properties across our town.

One of my favorite things to visit on the Georgia Trust website is the list of “Properties for Sale” and I may be known to send one or two to my husband on a monthly basis.

When designing our new t-shirt collection, we knew we had to include one for historic preservation. For those of us passionate about it, celebrating and wearing it proudly is a badge of honor. We hope to share this shirt with those of you who also have an affinity for history, and saving these beautiful buildings. The Georgia Trust will receive a donation from every shirt sold. Their goal is to preserve and utilize old buildings and keep them around for generations.

About The Georgia Trust

Founded in 1973, the Georgia Trust for Historic Preservation works for the preservation and revitalization of Georgia’s diverse historic resources and advocates their appreciation, protection and use. As one of the country’s leading statewide, nonprofit preservation organizations, the Trust generates community revitalization by finding buyers for endangered properties acquired by its Revolving Fund and raises awareness of other endangered historic resources through an annual listing of Georgia’s “Places in Peril.”
The Trust offers a variety of educational programs, provides technical assistance to property owners and historic communities, advocates for funding, tax incentives and other laws aiding preservation efforts, and manages two house museums in Atlanta (Rhodes Hall) and Macon (Hay House).
