If you’ve followed along here for any amount of time, you’ve probably noticed one thing … I love a good rug. A beautiful rug completely changes a room. It adds warmth, history, texture, and that collected-over-time feeling that I always chase in a home.
While I absolutely love true antique rugs, they’re not always practical. In fact, mine are torn and tattered to pieces and I kind of like them that way. Not everybody’s style. They’re expensive, can be difficult to source, and finding the perfect size is often impossible. Thankfully, there are so many beautiful vintage style rugs available today that capture that same timeless look for a fraction of the price.

Antique & Vintage Inspired Rugs
These are my go-to recommendation for almost every room. They have the soft, faded colors and worn-in character that make a home feel like it’s been lovingly collected over generations instead of decorated all at once.

Oushak Rugs
If I had to pick one rug style that instantly elevates a home, it would probably be an Oushak. Their muted colors, oversized motifs, and slightly faded appearance work beautifully with English, traditional, cottage, transitional, and modern homes alike. They’re timeless.
Persian & Oriental Rugs
Nothing beats the richness of a traditional Persian-style rug. Whether authentic or inspired, these rugs instantly become the foundation of a room and often look even better as they age. They’re one of my favorite ways to add history and personality to newer homes.
Jute & Sisal Rugs
Natural fiber rugs are one of the hardest-working pieces in a home. Jute rugs add warmth and natural texture, making them perfect for creating a relaxed, layered look in living rooms, bedrooms, and casual spaces. Sisal rugs are exceptionally durable, making them an excellent choice for high-traffic areas like entryways, hallways, dining rooms, and stair runners.
I love layering them underneath vintage rugs, using them in high-traffic areas, or letting them stand alone when I want a lighter, more relaxed look. They are such a good base layer for your home and can take the wear and tear of a busy household. Designers love them too so you get the look that everyone is designing around. They add wonderful texture without competing with the rest of the room.
Flat Weave Rugs
Flat weave rugs are ideal when you want something casual and durable. They’re especially beautiful in kitchens, hallways, mudrooms, and beneath dining tables where a lower pile is practical.
Hand-Knotted Rugs
If you’re looking for an investment piece, this is where I’d spend the money. A quality hand-knotted rug can last for decades—even generations—and often becomes more beautiful with age. They’re the closest thing to purchasing an heirloom for your home.
How I Choose a Rug
Whenever I’m selecting a rug, I always look for a few things…
First, I avoid anything that looks overly trendy. The best rooms feel layered over time, not decorated in a single afternoon.
I also gravitate toward muted colors instead of bright, saturated tones. That is just my personal preference. Softer palettes tend to work with more homes and allow your furniture and accessories to shine.
Texture matters just as much as pattern. Mixing wool, natural fibers, and flat weaves creates a home that feels warm and lived in.
Finally, I almost always recommend sizing up. One of the biggest mistakes I see is choosing a rug that’s too small. A generously sized rug instantly makes a room feel more thoughtful and more expensive. Even if you have to layer a more cost effective basic rug underneath for size, you can layer a nicer more visual rug on top of that for a cool depth of texture.
