I was out antique sourcing today and came across the prettiest old crochet tablecloth. It immediately reminded me of a crochet summer top I’d seen online earlier this week.
Same texture. Same open weave. Same handcrafted feel.
It made me smile because that’s exactly why I love antiques and vintage pieces so much. They remind me that so many of the things we think are “new” really aren’t new at all, they’re just being reimagined for another generation. New generations are finding them and claiming them, bringing them back and making them their own. I love when that happens.
Crochet is having a moment this summer, but it’s hardly a trend. Crochet summer tops are here to stay.
Long before it showed up in today’s collections, our grandmothers were crocheting blankets, tablecloths, doilies, baby gifts, and all kinds of beautiful things by hand. There was something so special about taking the time to make something that would hopefully be used and loved for years.
In our living room growing up there was actually a little covered basket with yard and a hard plastic case of crochet hooks. My mom taught us to crochet when we were younger and I remember sitting there on the couch with my little light pink ball of yarn, wrapping it around the head of that hook over and over again. Tucking it under and trying to catch the hang of it, trying to make something of my own.
Maybe that’s why crochet still feels so beautiful today. It carries a sense of history & craft with it.
It’s handmade.
It’s imperfect.
It has character.
I think we’re craving more of that. The analog revolution I think they are calling it. With things like the Tin Can landline – it’s a movement & a notion that we crave.

The past has a way of reminding us what has stood the test of time, and I think that’s why these pieces feel just as relevant today as they did decades ago.
