If you’re tired of pancakes and waffles for your weekend breakfast treat, an elevated and simple French Toast dish is sure to be enjoyed by all with staples you probably already have on hand.
Classic French Toast
French Toast is a weekend breakfast specialty in our home, there is just something so nostalgic about waking up on a lazy weekend morning and having a free moment to make breakfast with the kids. While French Toast is definitely on the sweeter side and we often don’t have bread at the house, it is nice to have every once in a while. I might love it more than the kids!
French Toast is something everyone loves (at least I think so). I love finding the perfect fluffy bread at my local bakery and turning it into a special breakfast treat. A few tips for making your French Toast extra special and delicious…
First, find a thick cut of bread that is nice and spongey as it will soak up more of the egg mixture and give your Toast a great consistency. Second, go heavy on that egg dip! I like to ensure the crusts are coated and the bread has really soaked up a nice amount of the egg, but not so much as to where it’s falling apart. Third, add some flavor like cinnamon, nutmeg, vanilla extract or even a little citrus zest like orange or lemon to give it an extra layer of flavor.
This recipe will give you the perfect golden texture with a slightly crusted outside. We love to top our French Toast with whip cream, berries and powdered sugar. I also love to make this special coffee recipe when I have a free morning like this to enjoy something special.
While French Toast is a sure favorite in our house, we also love to make oatmeal, Buttermilk Pancakes, or a yummy casserole. I’d love to know your favorite breakfast to make on the weekends. Let me know in the comments below!
