Meet the Artist: Dallas Parsons

Our team at Heirloomed became a fan of the printmaking of Press and Palette after being drawn to Dallas’ unique prints and the beautiful attention to detail in her work. We got connected with Dallas after we saw her sporting our studio apron while creating her print work and had to hear more about her story. To further tell her story and share her art, we asked Dallas of Press and Palette to be featured on our Meet the Artist blog series. We are so grateful for the story Dallas has shared below and to share her printmaking with you all.

About the Artist

My name is Dallas Parsons and I am a self taught printmaker and artist from Salt Lake City, UT. My husband Sean and I love hiking, visiting National Parks, going to RSL soccer games, and playing with our 6 month old baby boy, Wells.

The Start of Press and Palette

I am the artist and printmaker behind Press and Palette. I started block printing in 2015, so I’ve been carving and creating prints for about 7 years! My sister and I were regulars at an art store in Sugarhouse, UT and one day I saw a little end-cap with some rubber, ink, and brayers. I had no clue what printmaking was or how to make a stamp — so, as one does, I impulse bought $50 worth of supplies. When I got home and started carving, it all clicked for me and it was a long time hobby before it was ever a business. In the early stages of printmaking, my inking plate was a plastic lid from an ice cream bucket.

Press and Palette’s website was officially launched on November 28, 2020.

Studio of Press and Palette

My current studio is the extra bedroom in our home. It’s a small 12 foot x 12 foot room, but it’s perfect for me. That 12’x12’ room is where all of my blocks are carved, inked, printed, and shipped.

Passion for Printmaking

One of my most treasured tools is the baren that my grandpa made for me. {A baren is a round disc, typically with a handle, that is used to press the paper to the inked linoleum block to transfer the ink}. I lived with my grandpa while I went to college and one day in passing I told him how badly I wanted a baren. Later that week, he pulled out his tools and scrap wood from his workshop and he made me a one-of-a-kind baren and gifted it to me. It was certainly an upgrade from the spoon and soup can that I was using to burnish my prints and will forever be a special tool to have in my studio.

Printmaking is a passion, a creative outlet, and brings me true joy. I love connecting with my customers and creating pieces that will awaken the walls of their home.

Press and Palette & Heirloomed

We love seeing artists and creatives alike wearing our aprons while they work; bringing true meaning to the vision we had behind creating the studio apron. We hope the Meet the Artist series introduces you to new artists to welcome into your home, broadens the networking of creatives and their passions, and inspires you to turn your hobbies and passions into your day-to-day routine.
