camo fall trendCamo has become one of the hottest prints of 2014, with the Summer trend easily extending into the Fall {and I don’t see it going anywhere anytime soon}.

For those of us in the South who have long had camo pieces in our wardrobes, it’s a welcomed trend and I’ve loved integrating a few key “fancy” camo pieces into my collection. If you’re going to do it, do it right. Here are my tips for camo done right.

  1. If you’re going to do it, don’t overdo it. Let your camo piece be the statement of your outfit and go simple and neutral for your other pieces. Think black jeans + white tee.
  2. Know when to wear your “fancy” camo. These stylish pieces are not acceptable wear for a dove hunt, go with the original, “real” camo pieces when in these situations. Please.
  3. Look for pieces with strong, simple construction or classic pieces. This will give you the most effortless camo look without making it look like you tried too hard.
  4. Add a little juxtaposition to really own this trend. I love how “rugged” camo is, so pair it with a nude heel or better yet a camo shift dress. You can have so much fun.
  5. Still not sure if you can rock it? The best single piece {in my humble opinion} to ease into the trend is a clean piece of outerwear. A jacket or vest, and consider going again with a classic piece like a trench or anorak.

Here are my go-to picks for camo this Fall. I’d love to know which you’re loving and what other pieces you can’t live without!

I would love to share with you a new apron story from the IceMilk Aprons children’s collection – Sugar Cone Scoops.

Each of the aprons in the children’s collection was named after a fond childhood memory of my own recollection. Ice cream has long been a summer {ok, year-round …} favorite of mine; one of my favorite treats of all time. And, what better time of year than summer to share the special memories behind this little apron.

Growing up in Florida, we certainly had our share of hot, steamy summer days {and nights for that matter!} but there is nothing I love more than the heat of summer. I think it must be in your bones from birth to truly enjoy it, and I do. We had an old-fashioned ice cream churn and my sister and I would enjoy mixing the recipe and taking turns pouring  the rock salt. I remember making strawberry and vanilla, but vanilla has always been my favorite flavor, so the apron namesake celebrated this simple flavor.

Most afternoons we would have a 20-minute thunderstorm sometime between 3:00-4:00pm so you had to be sure to time your treat right. I most loved making it early afternoon, giving it time to freeze and then enjoying it while the quick thunderstorms rained down. These special memories also inspired my Vanilla Churned-Sundays apron, as you may recall.

I’d love to know – what is your favorite ice cream flavor?

Inspired by my love for summer whites, I think it’s time for a little IceMilk Aprons giveaway {don’t you think?}

I feel that my obsession to pin, pin, pin as of late has taken away some time from my other lovely friends on Facebook and Twitter so I have decided to give a little love back that way. And, if you must know, summer is my all-time favorite season {90-degree weather and all}.

It’s a simple little giveaway for one of my very favorite aprons – the Frosty Tin Marshmallows – inspired by my Grandmother’s tasty little frozen mint salad treats.

Summer always brings something to celebrate – good times with family & friends at the lake or beach, and weddings too! Lots of home-cooking with all those fresh summer fruits & veggies, too. And, I hope an heirloom apron only adds to your entertaining fun!

Yesterday was the first official day of summer, though I’ve been celebrating for quite some time already. I think these throw-backs will help keep you in the summer spirit!

Throw-Back’s: Kinfolk: A Guide for Small Gatherings { a quarterly magazine that will inspire a few memories of your own} J.Crew necklace  { vintage-inspired settings would be great for anything from t-shirt to LBD } / Restoration Hardware Deconstructed Highback Wing Chair { the wing has such a regal touch, coupled with the undone finish makes it livable } / Stainless Steel Bendy Straws { a redo of one of our favorite kid classics }

One of my very favorite things about the Summer is the fresh fruits and vegetables that are oh-so plentiful this time of year.

Watermelon, peaches, corn, tomatoes, beans – you name it. There are so many reasons to love Summer, and this is one of my favorite. The past two days we’ve awoken to a bit cooler weather {and by cooler I mean, not in the 80′s by 5am …} and it’s made me realize that Summer is coming to a sweet end sooner than later.

It made me remember this wonderful farm stand called Jaemor Farms that we stopped at on our way to rustic North Georgia. I love how this picture makes you feel like you’ve take a step back in time, like it could have been taken yesterday or 40 years ago. In recent years, there has been a flourishing comeback of farms, fruit stands, farmers markets and such. A brand new one just opened in our neighborhood about a month ago and I finally made the walk up last weekend – it was perfect.

So, while I’ll be sad to see my favorite Summer season come to an end, I’ll look forward to the upcoming days of fresh apples, jars of jam and one of my all time favorites – those great boiled peanuts that only a true Southerner can master.

Do you have a local farm stand that you love? Do tell – I’d love to be sure to mark it on my list when we travel next to your area!

It is that time of year, Summer. When we are lucky enough to find the twinkling of tiny fireflies in tall grass fields all around. A joyous time.

Fireflies create an instant memory & a lasting family tradition. Hours spent chasing them, waiting until just the right moment when the illuminate long enough to find them and capturing them tightly in a great big preserves jar with holes gently puncturing the lid for air. A wonderful glow of lights captured for everyone to enjoy creates a lifetime of family times spent playing.

The wonderful Barnsley Gardens, just north of Atlanta, has a delightful “Fireflies” evening event that is held in their heirloom gardens. Sounds like the perfect place to create some family traditions of your own!
