It is no secret … I love the south. A quintessential Southern moment is surely that of a front porch filled with rocking chairs, friends & family telling stories, chit chatting away. So, I invite you join us on the Twitter “front porch” for our new #SouthernChat series each Monday at 9:00pm est.

southernchat

Each week we will have a new guest join us for the chat – from southern craft artisans,  companies & brands, bloggers, musicians, chefs and more! We will spend the hour-long chat getting to know our guest, meeting new friends and greeting old friends, and chatting thru a few questions that we’ve compiled in advance of the chat. Most weeks, our chat will include a chance to win a southern-inspired giveaway {special thanks to some of our southern sponsors, partners & guests}.

Joining the chat is easy, simply tweet with us each Monday evening using the hashtag #SouthernChat. Perfect for southern sites, brands, bloggers, for southerners or just those that love and appreciate the south! You can always visit us at heirloomed to see who the latest guest will be, to check out the questions for the week & all the details – and follow along with us on Facebook (heirloomed) and Twitter (@heirloomed) and by using the hashtag #SouthernChat.

For the first installment of #SouthernChat, we will have no guest and just get right down to finding our southern friends online, kicking off the chat and talking about all things southern for the new year! You can join in the conversation with these questions …

Monday, 1/7/12 (9:00pm est) – Kicking off #SouthernChat!

Q1: Nice to meet y’all! Share with us who you are, where you are & your connection to the south.

Q2: Who are some of your favorite southern people, blogs, companies, places, etc. on Twitter?

Q3: What do you love most about the south?

Q4: Happy new year! What great things do you think we’ll see coming from the south in 2013?

Q5: What do you want to see from #SouthernChat this year? Guests, topics, giveaway suggestions welcomed!

This week’s giveaway is from my company, IceMilk Aprons. Chat along with us and you’re entered to win a full adult Rollings of Cinnamon apron (an $85 value) – one lucky person will be chosen at random to win!

Like many people with an entrepreneurial spirit, I have many mentors to thank for where I am today.

I am a big believer in mentoring and the amazing impact that can be had when one takes the time to share their craft with someone who is passionate. Though I have many family members to thank for their advice and support over the years, one of my business mentors is friend Leigh Chandler of Papillon Linens. I have Leigh to thank for her kindness, patience and every step of the way in setting me up to tangibly succeed.

But, sometimes on a rare occasion, you make an impact without even realizing you are doing so. I received the most wonderful email several months back from Krista Montalvo. Krista owns Ginger Magnolia Catering {which means she’s a fabulous cook, of course!} and emailed me to let me know of a new business she had recently launched – Marmie Bags.

Krista told me in her note that IceMilk Aprons had inspired her to create Marmie Bags. She had connected with the story of our roots, having had the same fond relationship with her Grandmother that I did. She now has children of her own, who lovingly call their Grandmother “Marmie.” I was so taken aback and inspired by her note and have enjoyed popping over and perusing her bags. I love the vintage feel she brings to the product and cheer her on as she continues to grow her business.

I am thrilled that we are hosting our first official giveaway on heirloomed with Marmie Bags, and even more thrilled with the bag she’s giving away! This fabulous bag is very reminiscent of our “Rollings of Cinnamon” apron – I just adore the big black bow and simplicity of the styling.

This lovely little bag could be all yours and entering is easy! You’ll get a new chance to enter for doing each of the below, with a total of four entries per person:

1. Leave a comment below with your best words of inspiration for Marmie and others who are launching their own businesses!

nanas-pie-crust-fAs promised in our post from yesterday, here ALSO is my personal favorite recipe of Mom’s – the “Pie Crust” Cinnamon Rolls recipe that was also an inspiration for the “Rollings of Cinnamon” full apron by IceMilk Aprons.

nanas-pie-crust-bYou will notice this recipe card is for Nana’s Pie Crust specifically (which can be used to make any number of WONDERFUL pies) so to make the cinnamon roll recipe – it’s simple.  Make the pie crust recipe as the card says – then, take the same butter, sugar & cinnamon from the “Crescent” Cinnamon Rolls recipe in the previous post for the inside filling. Spread the filling over the rolled pie crust and roll into a tube. Then, cut slices of the tube into pinwheels and bake on cookie sheet. And there you have it! Pie Crust Cinnamon Rolls that are simply to die for!

You will find the front & back of the recipe card for your baking pleasure on this one as well!

Put the two head to head and let me know which YOU prefer?

As promised in our post from yesterday, here is the coveted, wonderful and perfectly pleasing “Crescent” Cinnamon Rolls recipe that inspired the “Rollings of Cinnamon” full apron by IceMilk Aprons – and Mom!

You will find the front & back of the recipe card for your baking pleasure! Enjoy.cinnamon-rolls-fcinnamon-rolls-b

51The Rollings of Cinnamon apron holds a special significance, as do all the aprons in our Heritage Collection – and this full apron was inspired by my lovely Mother, Judy Leckey.

Rollings of Cinnamon is an ode to her divine cinnamon rolls that have graced our plates for many breakfasts past. I love, love, love the cinnamon rolls. And lucky for all of us, there are two special cinnamon roll recipes that Mom makes.

The first is what we call the “crescent” cinnamon rolls. A doughy log filled with gooey cinnamon filling and topped with a powdered sugar icing glaze. A quick & easy recipe perfect for any breakfast dish. The second is the coveted “pie crust” cinnamon rolls. These take just a little more time, craft & care – but are well worth it. Sliced into small individual pinwheel cinnamon rolls – the dough is a flaky pie crust and the filling is more a dry cinnamon streusel filling.

Check back with us tomorrow for the very special cinnamon rolls recipe from Mom. And, click to view more on the Rollings of Cinnamon full apron from IceMilk Aprons.

ajc_logo I am thrilled to share that today we were featured by the Atlanta Journal-Constitution in this year’s holiday gift guide.
