Artisan Chocolate

With love in the air and Valentine’s Day this week, what better thing to focus on than Southern artisan chocolates. A little something sweet for your sweet {or for yourself!} the craft of chocolate making is alive and well in the South today.

We have beautiful Cacao boutiques here in Atlanta, and the space is just as fabulous as the chocolates themselves. And, I got my first Olive & Sinclair as a gift from sweet Courtney at Pizzazzerie, both from Tennessee! And, though they are not made here in the South, the beautiful Mast Brothers Chocolates can be found in so many wonderful sweet shoppes here and have a southern-inspired craft look and feel so I just couldn’t leave them out! One of my favorite little beach towns is Apalachicola, FL, where the Apalachicola Chocolate Co. even further romanticizes the notion of chocolate – and you must ask them about their “chocolate oysters!” And, the fun Wild Ophelia chocolates have so many southern-inspired flavors like southern hibiscus peach, beef jerky, New Orleans chili & smokehouse BBQ.

Artisan Chocolates: Olive & Sinclair, Cacao, Mast Brothers Chocolates, French Broad Chocolates, The Chocolate Lab, Wild Ophelia, sweeteeth.

One of my most favorite coastal towns is that of Apalachicola, FL.

It is a quaint little town in the Florida panhandle, filled with charming little businesses – one of the best seafood joints you’ve ever been to, an outfitters store equipped with a dog named Captain, a historic theatre, several Inns, a nautical antiques store, and a few other gems for you to discover.

The towns claim to fame is to have founded the first ice machine – and trust me, having lived through eighteen Florida summers, this IS a monumental invention.

I visited last weekend to discover a few of my favorite home stores were sadly no-longer, but also the most fabulous new discovery – Apalachicola Chocolate Company.

Spread inside a gorgeous old building, with cases filled of the finest cocoa concoctions – the owners truly have a time-honored craft that has been learned, practiced and shared to groom the next experts. The caramels were divine, the chocolate truly did melt in your mouth and even a special chocolate oyster that pays homage to the world-famous Apalachicola oysters. Coming soon is an expanded gelato section that already left you swooning!

Hope you’ll click over to see more photos from my favorite new chocolatier, and more importantly, go visit for yourself!

As Valentines Day is once again upon us, ensure you are making the holiday celebration a special & meaningful one – despite the cliche heart-shaped boxes of chocolates and red roses.

A wonderful tradition to begin is the celebration of little luxuries, and I find it a particularly wonderful fit for Valentines Day as it is the little things in life that we should be celebrating anyways!

Set a little budget, whether it be $25, $50 or $100 and come up with the most special, meaningful, luxurious little thing you can to give to your sweetheart. Make sure it is something you would NEVER ordinarily spend that kind of money on so it is truly a luxury – even it if your budget is only $10 – imagine how creative you can get! And make sure it revolves around some small little detail in life to ensure it’s as meaningful as it can be!

Whether it’s a chunk of gourmet chocolate, a tiny bottle of fancy perfume, or even an apron, enjoy the tradition of gift giving.
