There are many things I love. Two of them, in no particular order, are summer and magazines.

So, how thrilled was I to be included in Country Living’s recent bloggers choice publish of “50 Things to do this Summer in 50 States” representing my fair state of Georgia. Now, there are some pretty fabulous bloggers here in Georgia so I am oh-so-flattered to be included.

My “off the beaten path” pick was one of my very favorite places to go for a Sunday brunch – Sun in my Belly! There is nothing like a restored hardware store, brunch food, a live folk trio and BYO champagne to enjoy out of a jam jar. Right up my alley? I think so.

I thought it would be fun to share with you some of my other favorite picks for Atlanta!

Favorite Shops: Star Provisions, Simply Put, Urban Cottage, South of Market, London Trading Company, The Mercantile, Huff Harrington Home, Egg’s Nest, Ann Mashburn, B. Braithwaite

Favorite Eats: Cacao, Bella Cucina Porta Via, Valenza, Empire State South, West Egg Cafe, Belly General Store, Cafe Jonah, Portofino

I’ll keep adding to my list – I know there are so many I’ve left off. But, I’d love to hear your “undiscovered” favorites!

Also – I’d love if you’d take a moment and nominate Heirloomed for Country Living’s Blue Ribbon Blogger Awards!

We are so excited to be featured in this month’s Cooking Light magazine as a pick for The Editor’s Dozen!  A great cooking and entertaining magazine, CL offers delicious & healthy recipes, travel tips, and information on fun new products.  Whether you have this month’s issue in your home or pick it up at the grocery store, check out page 23 in this month’s issue of Cooking Light!  A special thank you to Phillip and his team for including us, we really appreciate it!

Mark your calendar folks! IceMilk Aprons is so excited to have the joy and privilege of joining Gena Neely Knox for her cookbook signing at one of our favorite places, Urban Cottage!  Mrs. Knox is kicking off her summer cookbook tour for Southern My Way Saturday, April 23 from 1pm-4pm and we could not be more thrilled to be joining her.

In case you’ve been missing out on the greatness that Gena Knox has created, let us fill you in!  A homemade salsa company turned catering business, creating beautiful landscape architecture on the Georgia coast and starting one of the fastest growing, nationally ranked private companies, Fire and Flavor, with her husband.  Oh and she just wrote her second cookbook, Southern My Way!  Gena’s passion for food, the South, homegrown gardens and family traditions is evident in everything she has created.

Here at IceMilk Aprons we love that her cooking influences come from generations before her, the same traditions she had as a young girl are carried on today, and that she is still trying to master her grandmother’s caramel cake!  If you are in the Atlanta area Saturday the 23rd, please stop by and visit.  Also, check out www.genaknox.com for more information about her book tour and for delicious recipes!  If you would like all the details for the event or would like to RSVP via Facebook please click here.

Our delightful friends at Layla Grayce are at it yet again – this time with their top design trend picks from their latest trip to the market.

Hope you’ll take a momento to vote for the “Curated Style” they are featuring where our very own IceMilk Aprons are featured in the style board!

Some refer to the style as curated or found objects, but I like to call it heirloomed. Inspired by the past and the story behind the  piece, these treasures just look like they’ve got a story to tell.

Christmas came a little early for us this year. Visions of sugar plums danced in our heads as we learned that our very favorite Martha Stewart selected IceMilk Aprons as a “Top Holiday Gift” this year!

Pop on over to view some images of Martha with the IceMilk Aprons, as well as with her kitchen gals all dressed up in the styles! We are so truly honored to have been selected for such a special pick.

Growing up a Florida girl (7th generation … did I mention?) you know I adore as much Florida as I can get.  I am so very excited to share this article today from the Tampa Tribune entitled “Retro-style aprons coming to a modern kitchen near you.” Click here to read about how aprons are playing a meaningful role in the kitchen, with families, and on the runway today.

And, of course a very special thank you to the oh-so-fabulous Jeff Houck (Facebook Page / Twitter @JeffHouck) who took the time to sit down with interest in writing this story. Be sure to check out his foodie blog over at the Tribune,  The Stew.

With a name like “The Hungry Southerner,” well, there was simply no doubt I wouldn’t love everything about this project.

Yes, I do love grits, biscuits, farm-fresh vegetables and the occasional *ahem* piece of fried chicken. It’s hard to keep a girly figure in the South, isn’t it? Oh, but so worth every yummy moment.

I had the pleasure of meeting Sean from The Hungry Southerner team, at one of my favorite Atlanta spots (Bakeshop), to chat about this wonder of a project. Their mission is to share the rich stories that make being hungry a way of life, to discover the southern foods that inspires new creations and to pass on our passion for Southern culture and its timeless traditions.

Truly, a match made in heaven, which I often refer to as – the South.

I am so honored to be a part of their podcast series, which is currently the top foodie podcast series on iTunes, no less! They are currently making their way across the South, talking to people about traditions and the stories that inspired their products. The passion  & genuine interest they have for their project is undeniable. For me, it doesn’t get any better.

I hope you’ll take a moment to take a listen to The Hungry Southerner podcast with IceMilk Aprons and read the delightful blog post & gorgeous photos they took!

A very special thank you again to The Hungry Southerner – helping to preserve these Southern stories for generations to come, and allowing me to tell a bit more of mine.

We are so thrilled to share our recent feature in the oh-so-throwback Victoria Magazine!

IceMilk Aprons was featured in IceMilk Aprons: Creating Cherished Keepsakes for the publications May/June 2010 issue. We had such a delightful time as Victoria Magazine visited us at our studio for the interview & photoshoot, everything you see was shot here on location in Atlanta, GA!

And of course a special thanks to one Mrs. Leigh Chandler of Papillion Linens for making the recommendation that we be included!

Be sure to click to enlarge each photo below so you can read the beautifully crafted story Victoria Magazine put together. What a joy!

National Tie One On Day™ is today, Wednesday 11/25, Thanksgiving Eve. In its 4th year, National Tie One On Day is an opportunity to put a little “give” back into Thanksgiving.

My dear friend, EllynAnne Geisel, author of The Apron Book, Apronisms & The Kitchen Linens Book, created this event. The event centers around wrapping a baked good in an apron, writing a note of prayer or encouragement, and tying one on…an apron, of course! and delivering the wrapped bundle to someone in need of physical or spiritual sustenance, a bit of recognition or just a kind word.

Visit her website www.apronmemories.com for more information and to enter the goodie bag giveaway! Six winners!!

I hope you’ll join me and participate! It’s such a win-win. As EllynAnne says,”Women clad in aprons have traditionally prepared the Thanksgiving meal, and it is within our historical linkage to share our bounty.”

IceMilk Aprons was featured today in the Atlanta Journal-Constitution as part of the Southern Recipe Restoration Project.

Let me start by saying, what a true honor to be featured as part of this wonderful project. The Southern Recipe Restoration Project includes a panel of renown chefs and is rooted in the belief that the heirloom recipes of Southern mothers, grandmothers, great-grandmothers and on should be preserved, captured and shared for generations to come. A project after my own heart!

Click here to read the full AJC article which profiles the story of me & my Grandmother Cele Marcoux and shares three of her beloved recipes: Frozen Lime-Mint Salad, Copycat Fudge Sauce, and Calypso Pie.

Thank you to dear Susan Puckett who spent a great deal of time with me, hearing my story, getting all the nuances and for her appreciation for this great project and the wonderful heirloom Southern recipes preserved for years to come!
