At last, I shared Sawyer’s sweet newborn session with you, and today her equally adorable birth announcement {c/o minted}.

minted birth announcement

I love the formality and tradition of birth announcements. What a wonderful way to share our special new baby girl with our closest family and friends. We didn’t send a holiday card this year {which, if you know me was a BIG deal} but I was 9 months pregnant with Sawyer and just couldn’t bear the thought of sending a card with our family photo that didn’t include her sweet face. So, we waiting until her arrival instead.

I searched and search for the perfect announcement, and loved the simple floral touch this design had. Because her middle name is Rose, I loved the undertone and it was a great match to her nursery. The blush coloring of her skin in the photo also worked so well aesthetically.  It’s a great treasure to add to her baby book in celebration of her first arrival.

So … onto the equally exciting part. My friends at minted have generously allowed me to host another giveaway! Who wouldn’t want a $150 to use on birth announcements {or anything that suits your fancy, really}? I know about 75 lovely ladies who are pregnant right now, and this couldn’t be more perfect. I’ve been anxiously awaiting the moment when I could share my sweet new daughter. Introducing … Sawyer Rose. She’s our new bundle of joy { well, new-ish as we’ve somehow hit the 2-month mark already } and she couldn’t be more wonderful.

It seems like just yesterday we were in the midst of Wyatt’s newborn session. He is now two and running circles around me – which made this shoot even more fun. I just love their sweet little shots together – so much love.

Big, big thank you to my friend Heidi at Our Labor of Love for yet another gorgeous set of photos for us to capture this special moment in our lives.

And, stay tuned tomorrow – I’m sharing Sawyers birth announcement with fabulous giveaway from Minted that you won’t want to miss!

I’m in the holiday spirit and ready to break out the Christmas tunes at any given moment {too soon?}.

One of my favorite things about the holidays is looking forward to a mailbox full of happy & festive holiday cards from friends and family I hear from every day and some I haven’t heard from in ages.  Since it will be Baby Girl’s first Christmas, I hate not to include her on the holiday card but not knowing when she will arrive exactly and coordinating a family photo for Christmas cards and then her newborn shots has my head spinning just a tad – but mostly because I look forward to it so much every year!

I ordered Wyatt’s birthday invitations this year from Minted and had such a fabulous experience that I decided to go with them for our holiday cards this year as well!

So, here are a few of my picks for our holiday card this year. Do you have a favorite?

After browsing tons of fabulous designs, I thought I’d share how I went about selecting my holiday cards. Everyone has different priorities for selecting their card designs, but here is what I found to be my top 5 “must haves” for my holiday cards:

1. Single, Large Photo Layout
I love a good reason to take yet another family photo that really reflects the personality and lifestyle of our little clan, so a flat card with a clean, simple one-photo layout was my #1 priority. I filtered out all other design options from the search for that reason, which made my search quite a bit easier!

2. Classic Holiday Message
Around the holidays, I’m especially nostalgic for the “classics.”  This year, I must admit I was tempted by some of the very cute & clever phrases, song lyrics, and words that adorned the sweet designs, but I decided sticking to a classic message like “Happy Holidays” or “Joy” felt more like something that fit our family so there I stuck.

3. Whimsical Design
While I stuck with classic message, I love a little juxtaposition so a bit of whimsy in the design was also important to me. I love the hand-painted look of some of the design treatments like the evergreen sprigs, the shiny gold foil, or the special edge designs. Pairing a little something fun with the classic message and a photo I’m in love with makes for a homerun holiday card in my book.

4. Last Name Leaders
Call me traditional again, but I just love having a strong, simple statement like “The Schoenith’s” or even the year stamp showing as a prominent design treatment. When you see a wall or fridge filled with holiday cards, making yours easily identifiable and a keepsake (especially for family members that love to keep cards!) makes this touch especially significant.

5. Ease of Use
Onto the more “2.0″ version of myself, ease of use in browsing, ordering, & ask questions is such a priority for me {especially this time of year …} so being able to filter my search, find my perfect card on my iPhone at 1 AM from the comfort of my bed, and live chat customer service with a question made my choice even easier. And, don’t think for one minute I won’t be uploading my Christmas List so these cards come pre-addressed and ready to go!

Southern at Heart logo

I love watching the Food Network, but imagine my surprise a few weeks back when I spotted one of my new heirloomed aprons pop up on the screen. In disbelief I hit rewind on the DVR and sure enough, there it was! Chef Damaris Phillips, the latest winner of Food Network Star was wearing the heirloomed Halter Apron on the trailer for her new show, Southern at Heart.

Damaris Phillips apron

I absolutely love that she is celebrating the love of Southern food and spreading her Kentucky roots for all to see. In the second episode this morning, Damaris prepared a lovely Fall breakfast spread, including two of my favorites {quiche & granola} AND was wearing the apron during the whole episode – how exciting. She wears it so beautifully and couldn’t imagine a more wonderful, Southern model for the apron. She picked her apron up at a store we work with in Louisville, KY called The Urban Farmhouse Market, and was also kind enough to wear it for her cooking demos last week at the New York Food & Wine Festival.

If you haven’t tuned in yet to watch Southern at Heart, I hope you’ll tune in next Sunday at 10:30AM est to catch the latest episode and support Damaris!

In celebration of the TV debut, we are hosting a giveaway this week of our heirloomed Halter Apron, the same style worn by Damaris on the show! You have until 11/10/13 12AM to enter to win – best of luck!

There are few things I enjoy more than entertaining. My entertaining style is simple, inclusive, unexpected and rustic – and the more the merrier.

I love the styling of author Annette Joseph, so I instantly knew her new book Picture Perfect Parties would be right up my alley. Her focus on simplicity shines through each page, making any event seem effortless and chic.

Annette was kind enough to include one of our IceMilk Aprons, the full sash Morning Bun Moments, in the styling of the book. And, by happenstance it landed a place in one of my favorite occasions … the Thanksgiving section. So, a fun giveaway for you this week as we’re teaming up and giving you the chance to win a signed copy of Picture Perfect Parties and a Morning Bun Moments full sash apron.

Southern Sweets

Join us for this week’s #southernchat as we talk about delicious Southern sweets from Goo Goo Clusters and Red Queen Tarts to marshmallows and shortbread cookies.  I look forward to hearing everyone’s favorites and sharing a few of them myself!

I love the history of the products from Chattanooga Bakery, the maker of Moon Pies and wish some of them were still around today! And, we even had a special chat just for Southern artisan chocolates. I loved stumbling across Sir Francis, who pairs such Southern ingredients as bacon & peanut brittle to make their boxes of confections.

To help further the Southern sweets discussion, we will be having special guest Jenny (@SweetSixCandy) who began Sweet Six Candy Co,  Using a recipe from her mother, Jenny spun her own versions of the six ingredient recipe and reeled people into her Sweet Six brown sugar candy. You can get to know more about this sweet company from our post yesterday to get an inside look.

Jenny also recommended I check into Wondermade marshmallows – and if they taste half as amazing as their packaging looks – I’m 100% sold! With flavors like bourbon & lavender, there is no doubt these fluffy wonders were made right here in the South. She also said I should look into  Jane’s Short Sweets, a company that not only makes sweets but is also sweet-as-can-be by donating all of their profits to charity!

Despite the size of your sweet tooth is, I hope you’ll join us this week for #southernchat!

If you love Southern food, there’s a good chance you take the taste of a biscuit very seriously.  A staple in the Southern kitchen from breakfast to dinner, biscuits also allow each person to personalize theirs with honey, gravy, and different preserves. Most biscuits are made with the same ingredients: flour, buttermilk or milk, and some kind of fat or butter, but within the preparation is where many secret steps and family traditions take root.

Being a most adamant fan of breakfast & brunch, for me it doesn’t get much more Southern than the biscuit.  I love the notion of a flour-covered countertop, a strong tin biscuit cutter, and a warm biscuit just out of the oven in time for the meal to be enjoyed fresh.

This week we’ll be talking ingredients, secrets, favorites, and traditions for our biscuit #southernchat.  I hope you can join us in the chat and that we might encourage you to share a special recipe of your own, or make your own biscuits for you and your family. Join in this week for our biscuit #southernchat at 9:00PM est this Monday 3/18/13.
