At last, I shared Sawyer’s sweet newborn session with you, and today her equally adorable birth announcement {c/o minted}.

minted birth announcement

I love the formality and tradition of birth announcements. What a wonderful way to share our special new baby girl with our closest family and friends. We didn’t send a holiday card this year {which, if you know me was a BIG deal} but I was 9 months pregnant with Sawyer and just couldn’t bear the thought of sending a card with our family photo that didn’t include her sweet face. So, we waiting until her arrival instead.

I searched and search for the perfect announcement, and loved the simple floral touch this design had. Because her middle name is Rose, I loved the undertone and it was a great match to her nursery. The blush coloring of her skin in the photo also worked so well aesthetically.  It’s a great treasure to add to her baby book in celebration of her first arrival.

I’ve been anxiously awaiting the moment when I could share my sweet new daughter. Introducing … Sawyer Rose. She’s our new bundle of joy { well, new-ish as we’ve somehow hit the 2-month mark already } and she couldn’t be more wonderful.

It seems like just yesterday we were in the midst of Wyatt’s newborn session. He is now two and running circles around me – which made this shoot even more fun. I just love their sweet little shots together – so much love.

Big, big thank you to my friend Heidi at Our Labor of Love for yet another gorgeous set of photos for us to capture this special moment in our lives.

And, stay tuned tomorrow – I’m sharing Sawyers birth announcement with fabulous giveaway from Minted that you won’t want to miss!

As a relatively new mom {2+ years and going strong …} there are so many things I’ve learned from other moms, especially when I was just getting started. Since last year was my first experience with Valentine’s Day with Wyatt in school, I was lucky to have stumbled upon these adorable “classroom Valentine’s” that you can personalize and make cute-as-can-be!

There were lots of X’s and O’s that would be so sweet for little girls, but I loved the simplicity of the design of this arrow for my all-boy kiddo and know his friends at school will love it too. So much better than those little drugstore Valentine’s cards I handed out when I was little! And, I know he’ll have fun giving them to our neighbors and family, too.

Just thought I’d share these cute little cards if you hadn’t found them already, since Valentine’s Day is just around the corner! Did you already know this little secret? I ordered mine from Minted this year, and you can check out all of their cards {here}.

PS: this post is not sponsored, I just really loved these cards!

In 2014, I am resolving to blog {more} and to do so about things I am truly passionate about – family, the South, heirlooms – I’ll start there and keep it simple. And so, here’s to my first post of the new year!

I gave you a sneak peek a while back from our Love Bug shoot with my favorite photographer, Heidi from Our Labor of Love and the adorable children’s shop Seed Factory here in Atlanta.

As Heidi pointed out to me, this shoot is not my typical aesthetic – simple, clean, white. I go more for the setting, outdoors, rustic, layered. But the premise of the Love Bug shoots are to capture the pure joy of children, their favorite toy and to let them simply play and be themselves. Wyatt brought his sweet tiger Jellycat. And, the photos that resulted show my sweet two-year old just as he is – happy, sweet, silly and full of energy.

Here’s to 2014!

Just when you think you know what pure joy looks like, try giving a 2-year old a push button to a Smilebooth camera and see what happens. smilebooth 3

While we were waiting for our Lovebug shoot at the sweet kids store, seed factory here in Atlanta, Heidi and the lovely ladies at Our Labor of Love let the kiddos play in front of the camera and have more fun than I ever could have imagined. I can’t wait to see the full Lovebug shoot photos of my sweet little guy and his most favorite Jellycat tiger.

Baby Girl Pregnant

They say with baby #2 you’re more laid back about the details. With less than three weeks to go before we meet our baby girl, by now I would have had my hospital bag packed, nursery complete down to the finishing touches and baby clothes all washed, folded and hung in all of their tiny glory. This time around, not so much the case …. but we’re getting there!

Belly

So thankful to friend & my favorite photographer, Heidi for capturing these sweet belly shots so we could have some actual record that I actually carried this sweet girl for 9 months. You know, as opposed to the weekly numbered belly shots I took when I was pregnant with Wyatt.

Excited to meet our sweet girl – and to share all the fun things we have coming up with you – newborn shots, nursery & toddler room reveals & more!

Camp Party Chalkboard Sign

Last weekend we held Wyatt’s 2nd birthday party – where has the time gone!? We have always had a fondness for camping and the outdoors, and Wyatt shares the same passions. And, his “big boy” toddler room {which is nearly complete .. stay tuned!} has a camp-inspired theme, too so it was the perfect fit.

Camp Party Invitation Smores Cake

I instantly found inspiration in this sweet Minted birthday invitation and got so many comments from the guests on the cute theme. We pitched a big tent in the backyard for the kids to play under, and outfitted with a few simple swags of burlap and a hand-stitched red cross flag it made the perfect backdrop for the party. The flag made it’s way into Wyatt’s new room, too.

I’m by no means a food blogger, but I must say this s’mores cake might have been my very best baked good to date. I just may post the recipe if there is some interest because I’m dying to make it again {already!} I’m a sucker for a good graham cracker crust.

Camp Party Tent

I also made a kid-friendly s’mores cake and pitched three little graham cracker tents on top, which was simple to cut and share with the kiddos.  And, just when you start to feel a little crafty, I have my talented mom to thank for Wyatt’s cute hand-painted “Camp Wyatt” thermal shirt, tent flag sign and chalkboard sign! And, I had to get these classic kids Hunter Boots as the perfect birthday present, though he hobbled around in one most of the day!

Toddler Camp Party

Everyone had fun playing and roasting s’mores in the firepit. This s’mores station was pretty much completely gone by the end of the afternoon and the perfect Fall day added a crisp little note to the fun.

gilded girls nursery We are anxiously awaiting our baby girl’s arrival, and less than half way to go we are busy searching for the perfect name and nursery to welcome her into the world!

It’s been quite some time since I’ve put my girlie-girl hat on. Converting our “boys-boy” nursery into a special nook for a baby girl takes a total mindset shift. But, a challenge I’m up for any day. I love the classics, not overly frilly, but there is something so feminine about a truly vintage and glamorous setting. I decided the theme for our baby girls nursery will be gilded. With washes of worn white, touches of gold, a bit of whimsy and touches of blush.

And so, I hope you enjoy the style board of pieces I’ve collected for inspiration. Would love your input on favorite finds that might be a perfect fit in a golden and gilded newborn nursery!

Gilded styleboard finds :

Malibu Chandelier / ABC gilt wood letters / Vine carved oval mirror / Jellycat goat / Metallic gold brush pillow / Personalized crown rocking chair / Millbrook Iron Crib / Wild Things knit crown / Metallic suede & hemp rug

The secret is out of the bag and I’m so thrilled to share that we’re adding a new addition to our family this December, a baby girl! While this means I get to decorate another sweet little nursery soon, it also means my little guy Wyatt gets to move into a “big boy” room of his very own. I couldn’t be more excited about this new adventure, and that is the theme we’re going with.

Camp in

Wyatt has a vintage paperback in his nursery now, “The American Red Cross : Life Saving & Water Safety,” that has set the stage of inspiration for his new room. A drab olive green with a simple red cross, it’s the perfect blend of simplicity and rugged nature. I thought I’d share my working styleboard for Wyatt’s “camping” room, a special place he will have to play hard and create his own adventures.

I’d love to know what other fabulous finds you have discovered that might be a perfect fit for the room!

Camping in styleboard finds :

Bunk Bed / Metal Depot Pendant / Wool Army Blanket  / Compass Wall Clock / Wooden Stool / First Aid Kit / National Park Print / Canvas Tent / Metal Playroom Chair

Einstein has a great quote that says “Life is like riding a bicycle. To keep your balance you must keep moving.”

With the holidays approaching, the idea of constant moving can be stressful. However that movement is also at the center of how we grow. I want to dedicate today’s Throwback Thursday post to one of my favorite bicycle enthusiasts, my dad. He’s a big cyclist so I always keep my eyes peeled for good gift ideas for the bike lover. The nostalgia of the bike will forever be a childlike memory for us all.
